Case Report on Short-term Psychotherapy

Abstract
It seems to me that while presentation of theoretical perspectives and case report about short-term dynamic psychotherapy is very active in other countries but not so in Korea.
The author reported one case of single-session psychotherapy and two cases of short-term dynamic psychotherapy in which relatively good therapeutic results were obtained by illustrating case vignettes.
I also reviewed several therapeutic factors thought to be important in short-term dynamic psychotherapy from various literatures.
Among three cases, one of them could not visit me more than once because of her current reality situation. She was relatively healthy, physically and psychologically, and capable before marriage but found herself in crisis after marriage. During the session, the author discovered in her life a repeated pattern characterized by difficulties at the beginning but good out-come in the end whenever she met with serious and important situation. When the author informed her of this pattern, she could accept this and overcome her crisis.
For the other two cases, the frequency of session was also limited due to their current reality situations. They had suffered from some adjustmental problems and marital conflict before the onset of the illness. The author could grasp the central theme of their problems early in treatment period and discussed over it including it¢¥s influence on current situation and early childhood with the patients. We also discussed about the relationship between the past and current reality so that they could realize their real problem. At the same time, therapeutic effect was enhanced by family therapy and temporary use of medication.
